Pepper Morgan thinks her life is pretty fine.

As one of the few society writers remaining in the United States, Pepper gets to dress up, drink martinis and hang out at parties with the rich and famous in Palm Springs. And then she dashes out of the latest gala to write up the events in her popular and witty column for the Palm Springs Daily Star.

But just when she’s convinced she’s the luckiest girl around, something stunningly awful happens: Pepper finds the body of a rich Palm Springs socialite in the back of her red Subaru WRX. And suspicion falls on Pepper who just happened to be driving the car at the time.

Soon Pepper is in all kinds of trouble — suspended from the job she loves, facing time in jail and falling for the wrong kind of guy.
